Story of the movie follows a failed cricketer, Arjun, who gives up on playing the game ten years ago to marry his girlfriend, Sarah. His son, Nani asks him for a Jersey and Arjun who is on suspension from his government job, takes up cricket at the age of 36 years, realising that he can’t live his life like he is doing currently.
Rest of the story follows how he makes a comeback into the game, turns out into an inspirational story for his son. 10 years later in 1996, the 36-year old Arjun is jobless and always scolded by his wife Sarah, for not consulting a lawyer to get his job back, since he is innocent.
Their seven-year-old son Nani, who plays for his school cricket team, asks Arjun for an Indian jersey. Arjun comes to know that the jersey costs ₹500, and despite not having the money, promises his son that he will gift him the jersey for his birthday. Arjun finally consults a lawyer for losing his job but is told that he cannot get his job back until he pays the lawyer. Left with no option, Arjun starts asking money from his friends to buy the jersey but is not successful.
Jersey is both a competent sports drama and a moving tale of a father and son. This is not the story of a hero; this is one of a father who doesn’t want to disappoint his son, of a husband who wants to finally bring a ray of hope into his wife’s life and of a cricketer who wants to fulfill his coach’s long-time wish. This is the success story of a man who has seen more failures and constantly been beaten by life but refuses to give up.
Watch this one this weekend if you’re an ardent fan of cricket, for you will sit on the edge of your seat during the sporting scenes.
